About Our Project.

A ‘CAN’ can make a Difference Food Project was born out of a vibrant community at RCCG Vineyard Chapel, Newport as result of Covid-19 after we realized an increased demand for food and other basic amenities amongst our community members.

RCCG Vineyard Chapel, Newport; a registered charity (No: 1153794), non-profit and a Christian organisation that collaborate with other community groups in Newport (and surrounding areas) primarily to meet the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of many including adults, youths and children.

We are committed to supporting the holistic wellbeing of the members of our community so we work hard to engage, deliver services and community based activities.

Our Charity organisation currently serves as a hub for BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) community group in Pillgwenlly, Newport and surrounding areas. Pillgwenlly (also known as Pill) is one of the most deprived areas in Newport, South Wales (where we are based): with significant deprivation particularly in the area of Income, Employment, Education, Health, Housing and Community Safety with a record rate of children living in low-income families.

As a BAME dominated community group, most of our members/ beneficiaries have been affected by the high level of the impact of Covid-19. Areas affected include mental health needs, low-income and employment insecurity as well as additional financial burden created by migration status which results to inadequate access to food and social care services.

Our Strategic Aims

We believe as a community, we are all affiliated, and because of this, it is important to support each other. This gives us great motivation and also why we take it upon ourselves as a charity organisation to stand alongside people in our community who are in crisis to offer the necessary care and support.
Our Mission as a charity organisation is to support our community through activities that will positively impact people’s lives. The community members we support range from low-income families, asylum seekers, members with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), the influx of mature students that have migrated from other countries (and still migrating) with their families, etc. We believe no matter how, no man, woman, or child should ever go hungry or left destitute so this project will continue to make that happen.

We aim:
👉 To effectively secure and efficiently make available emergency food parcels.
👉 To respectfully offer opportunities and possible solutions to help people escape food poverty.
👉 To strategically approach organisational sustainability.
👉 To continually on-board and support the volunteers who help us achieve these aims.
👉 To continuously advocate to end food poverty amongst out community members and in the UK.

Our Objectives

We understand that ending food hunger/food poverty is not just about providing food parcels; so at our charity, we support and encourage our volunteers to show empathy, compassion while providing practical support to people in crisis. We believe by doing, we are being relentless on tackling the root causes that tie people into poverty and help build resilience so they are less likely to need our food parcel service in the future.

 Our goal is to reduce the number of people who need the food parcel support, and ultimately to help reduce food poverty.
 To continue to make a difference by providing food parcel services to our community members (as many as possible) especially low-income families, asylum seekers, members with No Recourse to Public Funds, etc.
 Continuously campaign for a fairer society where no one is always getting anxious about where their next meal is coming from or relying on food projects at a charity organisations like ours in order to put food on their table..
 To provide substantial and meaningful assistance to people who face difficulties in their lives.
 Continually make referrals and signpost people to other organisations who can provide other necessary support.
